I was reading up on Afifah’s page, she had some real funny
politically-fuelled posters (photoshops of movie posters, one of which
featured Pak Lah and Dr. M, the movie title: Dah Benci Kot hehe), and
as I read her confession of her love for politics, it got me to somehow
reexamine myself in this particular area. Politics.

I’ve never
been a fan of politics, particularly because of the fact that politics
is man’s game, and I’ve never been a fan of people. Man, people,
humans. I find it to be a bit of a joke, really, of how I came to
aspire to be a lawyer, I mean, every facet of a lawyer’s life entails
having interactions with people, like it or not. I could, anyway, be a
an-everest-of-a-document-pile-on-my-desk kinda lawyer, but I can’t do
that since I do crave some fresh action, fresh challenges, and I don’t
see how that would cater to my tastes. Hmm.  Being a criminal lawyer
like in those movies, perhaps representing some real interesting
high-profile case is the sort of work I wanna do, but maybe not here in
Malaysia. The serial killers aren’t nearly as hot as Jeffrey Dahmer,
dude!

Man is God’s best creation, with the very gift of logic,
and yet we abuse it in so many ways it’s not even funny anymore. Call
it teen angst or whatever, I’ve come to realize how much damage we are
capable of doing, how much destruction we are capable of creating.
After all, we have the gift of logic. We are supposed to be better than
beast, but just look around and tell me in what way are we better than
them? In what respect, if you might wanna answer me?

No I’m
not talking about the long and never-ending war in the Middle East, nor
am I talking about the African people whose mortality rate per week is
higher than Singapore’s birth rate per year. It’s just too much and too
overwhelming, and fair I will say that I’ve lost track about how many
people have died over there, because frankly, people die there every
minute and I’ve lost count. When I switch on the news all I get is the
new number of those who have died on that particular day. Don’t go and
accuse me of being inhumane or insensitive (though I may be on a
day-to-day basis) or could care less about what will happen to my
brothers and sisters over there. Truth is, I have yet to be affected
enough for those deaths to trigger some emotional turbulance inside of
me, for me to cry everytime they play a video of screaming people
getting their heads blown off, guts spluttering all over the place. I
can’t honestly be affected by something I don’t know, and I’m the last
person to feel empathy for anything. Really, you must be something to
be able to cry everytime they announce another 12 dead by suicide
bombing or famine. Then again maybe that’s just me.

The very
fact that we are capable of so much damage to the universe and to our
own kind might just be our apocalypse. he sun might still shine for
another 3 billion years, our ozone layer might just hold up, the
drastic weather changes might settle down, but we mankind will still be
fighting over territories and power and manipulation is the key.
Politics is man’s game. You can’t get away with it, but you might play
it to your own advantage. That is, after all, how we all live. There
really is no real selfless person on the face of the earth. Say a
cancer-stricked 12 year old who wouldn’t die and wouldn’t give up
simply because she doesn’t want her mom to feel lonely or be sad, it’s
not just because of that. She doesn’t wanna see her mother sad because she doesn’t want that fact to sadden her.
In the end you do what’s best for you, you play things to your own
advantage, and there is perfectly nothing wrong with that. It’s that
survival instinct that’s enabled us to come to where we are now.

Of
course, of all the evil that man is capable of, they are, too, capable
of so much good. I just haven’t been able to bear witness to much of
that lately, in the world as a whole. On a personal basis things have
been going pretty okay I guess, just lotsa work and people to deal
with.

Now I’m left wondering why I didn’t take veterinary
science, maybe that way I could minimize contact with people and
concentrate on God’s other creations who have no malice whatsoever.
Whatever it is that they do, they do it out of survival instinct, void
of any mens rea, void of any conniving plots. They’re pure and honest,
and that is why I’ve always preferred animals than humans. I’m not a
zoophilliac, alright! Dumbass. It’s like growing up, I’ve been forced
to interact with people, to empathize with them and show some sort of
care when in fact I don’t give shit whatever happens to them, unless of
course  am to be affected in some way or another. Unless, of course,
it’s my family. I feel like such a mafia now. Huh. I should probably do an omerta, but that would be wrong tsk tsk tsk.

Ignore the somewhat boring take on politics, I told you I’m totally in denial of the pile of work I actually have…

On a sunnier side…I JUST WATCHED HOUSE S03E01!!! Prison Break the second season’s finished d/lding too, only i couldn’t get the second episode, the d/l’s been real slow . It happens when you miss the mad rush. *sigh*  If only the break lasts for a month….

Waiting for HOUSE!

September 5th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

listening to: Touch and Go - Straight To Number One (dreamcatcher mix)

SMACK!

I’m waiting for the third season of House to finish airing in the US and for someone to freakin upload it for the love of GOD!!!!!! I’d rather not sleep until I see the download button up on xtvi!!!I’m fighting the monster urge to just go ahead and sleep, but no…must….wait….uaaghhhrh…

So. Hm. I just saw the results up at azrul’s page, what I think is the official IIUM Debating League website. Dammit team "HOUSE" is last huahuahua~~~ I know I’m supposed to sad and all (trust me, I am!) but then there’s the 3rd round on the 9th and 10th to redeem ourselves, pride-wise I guess. Thing is, Afifah and I thought we’d improved by a considerable margin, if there was a yardstick to begin with. I guess in our case there was. We felt they were two of our better performances, it’s just that the judges will always tell us we need to find a significantly different point (or points) that would make us stand out, since tough luck we’d been gettin closing all weekend. We’ve consulted Azrul on the matter, but he said it was something that will come along with experience. Tough one, that. And again if I haven’t stress on this enough (this is called bitchin, people) almost everything, point-wise, that the judges say, is written down on the paper, bam bam! But they never came out! WTF??!!! I feel like givin myself a big hard kick in the rear region. HMmmppHhh…….someone shoot me already!

I’ve tons of assignments to do, apparently I’ve been watching a lot of tv since I came back for the mere 7-day holiday…sheesh. And  to top it all off, it’s International Break for EPL. Yeah. Neat huh. Of all week, THIS is the week for there NOT to be any ACTION! Get yer head outta the gutter, dude. I’m talkin EPL here. I kinda feel like I’m in the same position as Blackburn…last in the league table…*sobs* But I genuinely feel there’s gonna be a sunnier day….hmmm…..The last day for Round 2 I didn’t debate cuz Blackband didn’t show up, and naturally we had no team to go up against, so I just sat there, and little did I know it was gonna be so much fun. I got to learn a whole lot from merely observing the debates in room 1, helped Curse prep (they’re such a brilliant team, honestly) and watched them in action. It’s surprising how little they came up with during the prep, yet when it was time they banged the points and shoot it straight home! THIS is, I reckon, what is meant by experience. Watching them literally buried my sense of pride of actually being able to stand and talk for 7 minutes for three rounds. Hmm. Talk about obliteration!

Waiting for the game against Sheffield United on the 9th. Nyahahah funny thing, Sheffield United, there’s this Contract case on Harris v. Sheffield United Football Club and the first time I saw it I was practically grinning on the facade (people won’t understand if I start yelling all of a sudden) and started flipping for more footie cases. Found another two, and the only one I could remember of the two is this case with Newcastle United. Dammit. Newcastle is buying like crazy! And Glen Rhoeder looks like a Nazi! Don’t ask me why, I blame my sister for watching too many WW2 movies, but Rhoeder really does look like a Nazi! Not that I’m saying that it’s a bad thing or anything. They even tried to buy Neill as the deadline for the transfer window approached but hah! We held onto him, despite Rafa’s crazy haunting of our best right back! At least until January, that’s when the transfer window reopens. *sigh*. Shitty Eleza’s been yappin bout how the best players from our club always seem to depart for better, bigger clubs. I don’t blame them though (except for Beller’s..shitty clause!) Neill for example, had a terrific worldcup with the Socceroos, and would want nothing more than to improve his footie skills (and earn bigger bucks, huh!) at a bigger club if he could. *sigh again*. I’m waiting for us to actually make it big in Europe. Hahaha! Go go!

That, and I need ASTRO MAX! I seriously do. I need to record the games dammit!

Retardation. Major!

August 26th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

As far as I’m concerned the mid-semester exams have been quite detrimental to my health; because a)it was a major last minute studying (hell in law, that cannot be possible, dude!)  and b) i have real sucky time-management. Now that the exams are over with (with exception to FIM on the 16th, dang!) I can probably concentrate on better time-management and better organization of notes and stuff. As far as I’m concerned, I could remember the GPL 1 cases rather okay, considering the fact that I have such a limited memory up here. Now I think I need to put ‘em on cards or sumthin. I NEED to go to IKEA. Period.

Can’t think.

Can’t think.

Can’t think.

Why? I’m gonna be missing Blackburn v Chelsea match! FUCK! AND the stupid tv won’t even air most of rovers’ games, which is shitty enough. I guess I’ll go rant somewhere else, in some other way that is condusive to my sort of personality (i.e. kicking the cupboard door).

Why Are Jews So Powerful?

August 12th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

I got a forwarded email today. Almost always I will never open it; I’d just delete it straight away. Somehow, the topic was very interesting: "Why Are Jews So Powerful?". It didn’t specify who the writer was, but the answer to that question, question Muslims and perhaps the whole international community has been asking since the illegitimate birth of condemned Israel: Why are the jews so powerful?

Whenever posed with the question, the answer will always be quite long; lack of unity amongst Muslim nations, US sanction of everything Israel, the dummy of a supposed "International Body", The United Nations, because they are rich, because tey control America who controls the world’s economy..etc.

Yet the real reason behind it has never been simpler. It is KNOWLEDGE. I have indeed been wondering about this, why are they so powerful when there are so many of us Muslims? I myself have never been a great fan of the Arab countries, for I think that they are like toothless lions. They have the mane (that is the bounty of the oil Allah has given to their barren land), yet when they roar, it actually sounds more like a kitten’s meow. And that’s even if they actually do meow. Here you have, now two countries, under attack by a nation that does not even occupy the land legally, breaches every possible international humanitarian law, law of a nation’s sovereignity, and basic moral human principle there is, and yet whose tanks barrage freely into the sovereign states of Palestine and Lebanon. Muslims can’t do anything about it, even the UN is rendered to an extent that it looks like a beaten-up slave!

So when the lecturer actually ask me the reason why the Jews are so powerful, I could only reply to her what I firmly believe, that is they have the knowledge. The Muslims, however, are too busy selling oil to the US who in 20 years are gonna have more oil reserved in their tanks and the Arabs then have to buy from them at a much higher price, the internal battle between sects, and mocking one another for not implementing his version of Islamic law. She actually said that it was a very lengthy process, but I refuse to agree. It has been a logic I’ve been trying to propagate, and finally this particular article has said, in a more cohesive anylisis, what I’ve been trying to say.

We can’t blindly hate something without having a reason why. There is NO WAY that we can run from them, being the kind of society that we are and the states on which our economy depend on. But we can acquire knowledge, it is Jihad in it’s purity, and beat them at their own game. That is how the Jews are able to hold the world in their one hand; all 14 million of them. It’s apparently okay to sabotage a few things, like Coke for example, but can you honestly tell me that you’d boycott KFC? or McDonalds? Can you stop "googling" for answers on the net? Can you stop vaccinating you kids from Polio because a JEW invented it? Can you unwind and dismantle all the fibre optic cables by which I’m able to connect to the net and post this to you? Your pants might be Levi’s, your t-shirt Polo, and you might be eating chocolate chip ice cream from Baskin Robbins while surfing on a Dell.

So another question is, what do you do when they control the economy? Do you cease trade with the US because frankly, any sane (or insane) person can tell you that the Jews run it. Do you sabotage everything?

Enjoy the short article. Much is to be said pertaining to this matter.

Why
are Jews so powerful? AND Why are Muslims so powerless?

Why
  are Jews so powerful?

There are only
14 million Jews in the world; seven million in the

Americas

,
five million in Asia, two million in Europe and 100,000 in

Africa

.
For every single Jew in the world there are 100 Muslims. Yet, Jews are more
than a hundred times more powerful than all the Muslims put together. Ever
  wondered why?

Jesus of

Nazareth

was Jewish.
Albert Einstein, the most influential scientist of all time and TIME magazine’s
‘Person of the Century’, was a Jew. Sigmund Freud — id, ego, superego — the
father of psychoanalysis was a Jew. So were Karl Marx, Paul Samuelson and
  Milton Friedman.

Here are a few
other Jews whose intellectual output has enriched the whole humanity:
Benjamin Rubin gave humanity the vaccinating needle. Jonas Salk developed the
first polio vaccine. Alert Sabin developed the improved live polio vaccine.
Gertrude Elion gave us a leukaemia fighting drug. Baruch Blumberg developed
the vaccination for Hepatitis B. Paul Ehrlich discovered a treatment for
syphilis (a sexually transmitted disease). Elie Metchnikoff won a

 Nobel Prize in infectious diseases.

Bernard Katz won
a Nobel Prize in neuromuscular transmission. Andrew Schally won a Nobel in
endocrinology (disorders of the endocrine system; diabetes, hyperthyroidism).
Aaron Beck founded Cognitive Therapy (psychotherapy to treat mental
disorders, depression and phobias). Gregory Pincus developed the first oral
contraceptive pill. George Wald won a Nobel for furthering our understanding
  of the human eye.

Stanley

Cohen won a Nobel in embryology (study of embryos and their development).
Willem Kolff came up with the kidney dialysis machine.

Over the past
105 years, 14 million Jews have won 15-dozen Nobel Prizes while only three
Nobel Prizes have been won by 1.4 billion Muslims (other than Peace Prizes).

Why are Jews so
  powerful?

Stanley

Mezor invented the first micro-processing chip. Leo Szilard developed the
first nuclear chain reactor. Peter Schultz, optical fibre cable; Charles
Adler, traffic lights; Benno Strauss, Stainless steel; Isador Kisee, sound
movies; Emile Berliner, telephone microphone and Charles Ginsburg, videotape
  recorder.

Famous
financiers in the business world who belong to Jewish faith include Ralph
  Lauren (Polo),

Levis

Strauss (Levi’s Jeans), Howard Schultz (Starbuck’s), Sergey Brin (Google),
Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Larry Ellison (Oracle), Donna Karan (DKNY),
Irv Robbins (Baskins & Robbins) and Bill Rosenberg (Dunkin Donuts).

Richard Levin,
President of Yale University, is a Jew. So are Henry Kissinger (American
secretary of state), Alan Greenspan (fed chairman under Reagan, Bush, Clinton
  and Bush),

Joseph

Lieberman,
Madeleine Albright (American secretary of state), Casper Weinberger (American
secretary of defence), Maxim Litvinov (USSR foreign Minister), David Marshal
(Singapore’s first chief minister), Issac Isaacs (governor-general of
Australia), Benjamin Disraeli (British statesman and author), Yevgeny Primakov
(Russian PM), Barry Goldwater, Jorge Sampaio (president of Portugal), John
Deutsch (CIA director), Herb Gray (Canadian deputy PM), Pierre Mendes (French
PM), Michael Howard (British home secretary), Bruno Kreisky (chancellor of
Austria) and Robert Rubin (American secretary of treasury).

In the media,
famous Jews include Wolf Blitzer (CNN), Barbara Walters (ABC News), Eugene
Meyer (Washington Post), Henry Grunwald (editor-in-chief Time), Katherine
Graham (publisher of The Washington Post),

Joseph

Lelyyeld (Executive editor, The New York Times), and Max Frankel (New York
  Times).

Can you name the
most beneficent philanthropist in the history of the world? The name is
George Soros, a Jew, who has so far donated a colossal $4 billion most of
which has gone as aid to scientists and universities around the world. Second
to George Soros is Walter Annenberg, another Jew, who has built a hundred
libraries by donating an estimated $2 billion.

At the Olympics,
Mark Spitz set a record of sorts by wining seven gold medals. Lenny
Krayzelburg is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Spitz, Krayzelburg and
  Boris Becker are all Jewish.

Did you know
that Harrison Ford, George Burns, Tony Curtis, Charles Bronson, Sandra
Bullock, Billy Crystal, Woody Allen, Paul Newman, Peter Sellers, Dustin
Hoffman, Michael Douglas, Ben Kingsley, Kirk Douglas, Goldie Hawn, Cary
Grant, William Shatner, Jerry Lewis and Peter Falk are all Jewish? As a
  matter of fact,

Hollywood

itself was founded by a Jew. Among directors and producers, Steven Spielberg,
Mel Brooks, Oliver Stone, Aaron Spelling (

Beverly Hills

90210), Neil Simon (The Odd
  Couple), Andrew Vaina (Rambo

1/2/3

),
  Michael Man (Starsky and Hutch),

Milos

Forman (One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest), Douglas Fairbanks (The thief of

Baghdad

) and Ivan
  Reitman (Ghostbusters) are all Jewish.

To be certain,

Washington

is the
  capital that matters and in

Washington

the lobby that matters is The American

Israel

Public Affairs Committee,
  or AIPAC.

Washington

knows that if PM Ehud Olmert were to discover that the earth is flat, AIPAC
will make the 109th Congress pass a resolution congratulating Olmert on his
  discovery.

William James
Sidis, with an IQ of 250-300, is the brightest human who ever existed. Guess
what faith did he belong to?

Question:

So,
  why are Jews so powerful?

Answer:
  Education.

Why are Muslims so powerless?

There
are an estimated 1,476,233,470 Muslims on the face of the planet: one billion
  in

Asia

, 400 million in

Africa

,
  44 million in

Europe

and six million in the

Americas

.
Every fifth human being is a Muslim; for every single Hindu there are two
Muslims, for every Buddhist there are two Muslims and for every Jew there are
one hundred Muslims. Ever wondered why Muslims are so powerless?

Here
is why: There are 57 member-countries of the Organisation of Islamic
  Conference (OIC), and all of them put together have around 500 universities;
one university for every three million Muslims. The

United States

  has 5,758 universities and

India

  has 8,407. In 2004,

Shanghai

Jiao

Tong

University

compiled an
‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’, and intriguingly, not one
university from Muslim-majority states was in the top-500.

As
per data collected by the UNDP, literacy in the Christian world stands at
nearly 90 per cent and 15 Christian-majority states have a literacy rate of
100 per cent. A Muslim-majority state, as a sharp contrast, has an average
literacy rate of around 40 per cent and there is no Muslim-majority state
with a literacy rate of 100 per cent. Some 98 per cent of the ‘literates’ in
the Christian world had completed primary school, while less than 50 per cent
of the ‘literates’ in the Muslim world did the same. Around 40 per cent of
the ‘literates’ in the Christian world attended university while no more than
two per cent of the ‘literates’ in the Muslim world did the same.

Muslim-majority
countries have 230 scientists per one million Muslims. The

US

has 4,000
  scientists per million and

Japan

has 5,000 per million. In the entire Arab world, the total number of
full-time researchers is 35,000 and there are only 50 technicians per one
million Arabs (in the Christian world there are up to 1,000 technicians per
one million). Furthermore, the Muslim world spends 0.2 per cent of its GDP on
research and development, while the Christian world spends around five per
  cent of its GDP.

Conclusion: The Muslim world lacks the capacity to produce knowledge.

Daily
newspapers per 1,000 people and number of book titles per million are two
indicators of whether knowledge is being diffused in a society. In

Pakistan

,
there are 23 daily newspapers per 1,000 Pakistanis while the same ratio in

Singapore

is
  360. In the

UK

,
the number of book titles per million stands at 2,000 while the same in

Egypt

is 20.

Conclusion:
The Muslim world is failing to diffuse knowledge.

Exports
of high technology products as a percentage of total exports are an important
  indicator of knowledge application.

Pakistan

’s exports of high
technology products as a percentage of total exports stands at one per cent.
  The same for

Saudi Arabia

  is 0.3 per cent;

Kuwait

,

Morocco

,
  and

Algeria

are all at 0.3 per cent while

Singapore

is at 58 per cent. Conclusion: The Muslim world is failing to apply
  knowledge.

Why
are Muslims powerless? Because we aren’t producing knowledge. Why are Muslims
powerless? Because we aren’t diffusing knowledge. Why are Muslims powerless?
Because we aren’t applying knowledge. And, the future belongs to
  knowledge-based societies.

Interestingly,
the combined annual GDP of 57 OIC-countries is under $2 trillion. America,
  just by herself, produces goods and services worth $12 trillion;

China

$8
  trillion, Japan $3.8 trillion and

Germany

$2.4 trillion (purchasing
  power parity basis).

Oil
rich Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar collectively produce goods and
services (mostly oil) worth $500 billion; Spain alone produces goods and
services worth over $1 trillion, Catholic Poland $489 billion and Buddhist
Thailand $545 billion (Muslim GDP as a percentage of world GDP is fast declining).

So,
  why are Muslims so powerless?

Answer:
  Lack of education.

I am

Israel

- I came to a land without a people for a people without a land. Those people
who happened to be here, had no right to be here, and my people showed them
they had to leave or die, razing 480 Palestinian villages to the ground,
erasing their history.

I am

Israel

- some of my people committed massacres and later became Prime Ministers to
represent me. In 1948, Menachem Begin was in charge of the unit that
slaughtered the inhabitants of Deir Yassin, including 100 men, women, and
children. In 1953, Ariel

Sharon

led the slaughter of the inhabitants of Qibya, and in 1982 arranged for our
allies to butcher around 2,000 in the refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla.

I am

Israel

- carved in 1948 out of 78% of the

land

of

Palestine

,
dispossessing its inhabitants and replacing them with Jews from

Europe

and other parts of the world. While the natives
whose milies lived on this land for thousands of years are not allowed to return,
Jews from all over the world are welcome to instant citizenship.

I am

Israel

- in 1967, I swallowed the remaining lands of Palestine - the West Bank and

Gaza

- and placed their
inhabitants under an oppressive military rule, controlling and humiliating
every aspect of their daily lives. Eventually, they should get the message that
they are not welcome to stay, and join the millions of Palestinian refugees in
the shanty camps of

Lebanon

and

Jordan

.

I am

Israel

- I have the power to control American policy. My American

Israel

Public Affairs Committee can
make or break any politician of its choosing, and as you see, they all compete
to please me. All the forces of the world are powerless against me, including
the UN as I have the American veto to block any condemnation of my war crimes.
As

Sharon

so
eloquently phrased it, "We control

America

".

I am

Israel

- I influence American mainstream media too, and you will always find the news
tailored to my favor. I have invested millions of dollars into PR representation,
and CNN, New York Times, and others have been doing an excellent job of
promoting my propaganda. Look at other international news sources and you will
see the difference.

I am

Israel

- and you Palestinians want to negotiate "peace!"? But you are not as
smart as me; I will negotiate, but will only let you have your municipalities
while I control your borders, your water, your airspace, and anything else of
importance. While we "negotiate," I will swallow your hilltops and
fill them with settlements, populated by the most extremist of my extremists,
armed to the teeth. These settlements will be connected with roads you cannot
use, and you will be imprisoned in your little

Bantustans

between them, surrounded by checkpoints in every direction.

I am

Israel

- with the fourth strongest army in the world, possessing nuclear weapons. How
dare your children confront my oppression with stones, don’t you know my
soldiers won’t hesitate to blow their heads off? In 17 months, I have killed
900 of you and injured 17,000, mostly civilians, and have the mandate to
continue since the international community remains silent. Ignore, as I do, the
hundreds of Israeli soldiers who are now refusing to carry out my control over
your lands and people; their voices of conscience will not protect you.

I am

Israel

- and you want freedom? I have bullets, tanks, missiles, Apaches, and F-16’s,
to obliterate you. I have placed your towns under siege, confiscated your
lands, uprooted your trees, demolished your homes, and you still demand
freedom? Don’t you get the message? You will never have peace or freedom,
because I am

Israel

.

Prisoner At Dusk

August 5th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

listening to: Rammstein - Amour

I think I haven’t ranted much these past few weeks. Truth is I was too lazy. I guess my old self is coming back to haunt the hell outta me. It’s been quite hectic lately since class started and I’ve pretty much been involved in some stuff; nothing too big I suppose if compared to the debaters. I’d like to join the Matriculation Debating team, really. Debating is really fun for me. University debating, as I was told, is really different than the usual school debate, where there are two teams each representing the Government/Affirmative and the Opposition/Negative, 3 speakers on each side. First speaker with roughly 8 minutes to introduce their stand and lay down their arguments, the second and third speaker will well…speak later on, and then there’s a 3-minute break followed by a reply speech. Neat eyh? And what’s better is that we have a few days prior to the debate itself to prepare our arguments, and knowing which side you’re on an hour before the debate is real excellent compared to what I’ve been told about a University debate…*sigh* It’s basically…suicide. You get to know the topic 30-damn-minutes before the debate itself, and each has to talk around 8 minutes, without any 3-minute break for a reply speech. Harder, isn’t it? At least that’s what I thought. But I still wanna go. Have to go if I wanna achieve what I wanna achieve, dude. But it is a love affair, don’t get me wrong. Have always preferred debating to public speaking; you argue, therefore it’s a much more natural process as far as I’m concerned.

Class. Right. Class is really something. Insyaallah I’ll be there for only a year, thus the seemingly jampacked schedule. I’m only seriously packed on Wednesdays, only 2 hours worth of break from 10am-11am, followed by Arabic then another break for Zuhur (and if time permits, lunch..XOXO!) from 1pm-2pm. And it really doesn’t help that I eat like a snail. Oh wait. I think snails eat faster than I do. Hell, someone might already be in Nagasaki by the time I finish my nasik! Last Friday I was bloody busy with Moot Club meeting at *supposedly* 12noon, then as always, we only convened at around 1, and it took about 45 minutes, and by that time time is running out already as my Arabic Lecturer wanted to start class half an hour earlier than the 3pm schedule. Perhaps she wanted to go home earlier. But then again, she didn’t show up cuz she was sick. At ITL (Introduction to Law, Ms Nadz’s class) we were told there’s gonna be a Parliamentary Debate, and we were divided into 3 groups; A,B, and C with the Government Ministers and the Opposition consisting of 4 people respectively. I got group B. GOV-freakin-MENT!! I’ve never had the chance to be in the opposing team, which I think is much much easier. Aaah..ever the pessimist aren’t we? Anyway, it’s always been the opinion of mine that it’s easier to find the holes in something than trying to uphold it. Hmmm…She’ll tell us the details next week, hopefully. The thing’s in like…2 weeks or something. Damn. Busy, busy, busy, busy, need a vacation! Then in about five weeks we’ll have the Legal Career Exhibition, which I’ve aptly shortened to LXPO. Apparently, without any form of formal consensus, I’m to be the Project Manager/Team Leader/Director…whatever you might wanna call it. They pretty much left it for me to decide. Meeesh. It’s not that I’m being a control freak or something, but I kinda appreciate it. Though it’s gonna be quite a challenge now hence. I need to think about a LOT of things, dude…GPL 1 (General Principles of Law 1) is pretty damn neat, though. It’s basically A-Levels Law, with tons of English cases. Reading cases have yet to become a burden to me. The judges’ notes are dead hilarious! In the first semester we’re only gonna learn Law of Contract, which I thought was gonna be a sedative (dude…I love serial killers..contracts? peesh!) but turns out it’s fun after all! Great thing bout it is my friend and I will crack some stupid "Contract" jokes and people who’ve yet to read on the topic or are not Law students might not understand. To think about it, I’ve two tutorials to complete. *sigh*. Tutorials in Oxbridge is between a max of 3 students and a tutor who is a resident at the same college. No matter, I can always go there for my Masters *amiiiiinnnnn*. ILH (Islamic Legal History) is cool too I guess. Can’t wait to really use the Quran translation as a textbook hohohoho~~~~I’m lovin the subjects. Even Arabic which has 12 contact hours (that’s a whole lotta contact hours mind you!) is great! It helps that the Ustazah is damn good, she just makes everything seem easy. Downside….I left my book by accident at Aroma Cafe, realized it later that night, went there the next day and the taukeh there said he gave it to someone since he thought it was real urgent. I’m praying to God whoever that was who got my book would just leave it there so i can go pick it up! Damn! I’ve done tons of exercise in there dude!Law books are real expensive, too~~

Now I’m doin research on the stuff I need to put in the booklet for the Moot Workshop. It’s getting pretty late, but what needs to be done must be done! Ganbarou ze!!!

Second Week In The Strangest Land

July 13th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

From now on it’s only appropriate that I identify myself as a Law student. Gives me that kick in the ass, you know. I have to work really hard now.

It’s
really just been another week of pure….boredom. We didn’t have much
to do but sleep around, talk about things we probably would’ve talked
about the last ten minutes and me delving into conversations and asking
questions I normally would NEVER, ever, ask. I’ve made it a
point to finish up on Seige 1942, but so far I’ve only come up till
page..erh…100—-something.  Might be less.. Who knows. I’m too
stoned to tell…We felt sleepy almost all the time, and walking around
is just not my thing. The whole entire week was rubbish basically. They
could’ve let us go home and let us do something more productive with
our time *like watching youtube for instance*.

But I’m pretty
happy. Getting exempted for both English and Computer class is cool. I
was ecstatic. But was quite surprised by how easy it was to get
exempted. Stupid system? Who knows. I’d have to say yes, though. You
can shoot me if you want.

We had a Course Briefing for Laws
today at 1430hrs at AMF Hall. It was…welll…how should I put
it….boring. They just managed to make Law such a bohring
subject when in fact it’s the exact opposite! It’s exciting and full of
adrenaline rush, and that’s what they missed out on when they were
giving us the briefing. A quartet of second year Law students (and one
girl with an ATROCIOUS American slang) reading up the current events on
a projection screen with barely and interesting graphics on it is
really quite mundane to say the least. The Lecturers were…fine I
guess. Would’ve hoped they were more enthusiastic and motivating like
the Indian Law Lecturer from KDU College. I guess that’s where the
perks are *private*. *sigh*. They were basically telling us things we
could read by ourselves and telling us things aspiring Law students
should already take note of, like the top firms (Shearn Delamore, she
mentioned. Good. Finally someone who knows what tha hell that is),
options after the LL.B., and things we have to do as Law Students.
Don’t just say…owh…you have to read. And READ….like your life
depends on it. Yeah. Then you’d be just like all those other dumbfucks
out there. A sarcastic buddy in my head was nagging "No wonder you’re
here for 2 years!". Bad, I know. Fact, it still remains.

I am
kind of annoyed at the overpopulation of Law students, some of which I
know don’t even want to have anything to do with Law. They just like to
talk. Honey, if that’s what you like to do you can be a funfair deejay
for all I care. Just don’t crowd the space. They’re not even serious
and professional about it. They yap and yap and yap nonstop and scream
all of a sudden and are quite blatantly stupid-sounding. What makes me
tick the most I guess is that the fact that they think of Law as an
easy degree and a trash can of sorts. And the fact that they treat it
like on too, that’s worse. Yeah, it might be the easiest to get, but
please. Do me a favor. If you guys wanna treat this stuff like shit, I
suggest ya’ll piss off ASAP.

And again on the English here. Yeah so everyone speaks it, the lecturers and blabla I mean. If their English is like that,
how the hell do you expect the students to improve, man????? Some
seniors have these fake accents (Brit+American, haven’t heard any
futile attempt at Oz. Yet.) which would not have troubled me had they been perfectly emulated with a good sense of grammar and pronunciation. Duuude….So
at times I don’t understand what the big deal is if a Malaysian has an
American or Brit accent or an Oz accent for that matter, because truth
be told the language is not our own, however we Manglicize *phwar!* it,
it’s still an import, therefore it is only natural that we speak it
with a tinge of foreign accent, because that’s what we get from
tv/radio! To make it Malaysian, in most of people’s opinions, is to
detach the accents and make it as plain as possible. Or go easy on the
r’s and t’s. Fine. Again I shall state that I do not fuckin mind if
accents are used as long as they are perfectly executed; grammar,
pronunciation, and intonation etc. This is, I guess, my curse. I can’t
ignore it. It’s a disease….To think about it, an example of
good-sounding Brit accent is from one English lecturer, forgot her
name. Hers sounded like those old-time English teachers who have been
Brit-educated, thus retaining the accents from their teachers, and they
do it ever so well. The stresses on the r’s and t’s and the flow was
flawless, and it made me happy. Sick as that may sound.

Can’t wait to start class, might be next week. The subjects sound cool,
which is good, but in Semester 2 we’ll be learning General Principles
of Law II, which has got Criminal Law in it…YAY!!!!

I’m good for now. Can’t wait to study. I aim for a good 4.0 CGPA. Best of luck to everyone too~~!!!

P/s: If by chance there are any law studnets out there who are reading/passing through, nudge me or somethin will ya. It’d be nice to have people to talk to bout studies and all.

A Week In The Strangest Land

July 9th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

Hello people. For the very purpose of ranting I’m going to try and write a decent and chronological account of my first week at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

A little background would be nice first and foremost.

I was raring for a Cambridge LL.B and the Cambridge tutorial experience. Hell, Oxford would’ve been pretty okay for me. But it wasn’t to be. So the backup plan was (should I HAVE to end up studying in Malaysia) IIUM Law. And it was my first choice (I’d only filled 4 of the 8 choices) and looking back I could probably say the ONLY tangible choice for me as the other universities don’t strike my fancy. UiTM and its gigantanormous population of Malays; UM for..wellll….the really old campus. IIUM was my only pick as I’m quite familiar with the Main Campus, but I really didn’t know what to expect at the Matriculation Centre in Petaling Jaya. Having my plan of 1.5 years of A-Levels, UCSA applications, LNAT exams, Oxbridge interviews in Malaysia and then a terrific Oxbridge experience for 3 years, summer jobs and internships at the best law firms around there, 9 months chambering, killer dissertations and finally an invaluable degree and a shag-tastic job at the most prominent firms in the UK, slashed and obliterated, I found myself in a state of utter despair, and had to rebuild my future plans from scratch.

Trust me, it was a very long time before I could regain my concentration and thought to figure out how to go about planning a totally different plan. But thank God I did, and I filled up the forms needed, and got on with it. I had an offer to study at the IIUM Matriculation Centre for a year, from July 2006-June 2007, and for 4 semesters which got me quite perplexed at first.

Anyway, I went with a heavy heart. I didn’t wanna leave my family behind (even though it’s only about 30 minutes from Wangsa Melawati to PJ, and I could always go back by LRT…)and my life before, my TV and Blackburn Rovers (we’re going to Europe dammit!!!) and Jussi Jaaskelainen….It was gonna be hard and I’ve been nothing but bitter about everything. Now as I’m writing this I believe my bitterness has somewhat toned down a bit. I’m in the comforts of my home but I’ll hacve to go back at 6pm. Sucks ha?

Registration day on July 2nd was hectic. The Committee members who were really 2nd year students at IIUMMC were nothing but helpful and friendly, they really were. By the time my parents left me there reality somewhat slapped me hard. I’m all alone now…I’ll be on my own. Met my roommates who were really nice people, and shortly after the Ta’aruf (Orientation for you buta Arabic out there….*you too*) program commenced. It was a gruelling week, let me tell you….having only 3 hours of sleep was a killer. When I got home I had rashes and eyebags. The shower and toilet was….clean, but pretty old. I’ve never been a fan of communal stuff. Most of the time we were stinky and sweaty from all the waiting and getting used covering up every damn thing was quite a challenge, but it turned out fine. The food was okay I guess, but we didn’t have enough fibre so I had trouble shitting..somewhat. I was missing home and my family all the time, it was probably the worst thing I had to endure. My friend told me there were some sacrifices I would have to make in order to succeed. And this was one of them.

On the third day I guess we had an English Placement Test. I wasn’t too scared about it in particular, but when they told me the English test is going to determine how long the program will be I was panicking. My head’s pretty stupid after 5 months of not doing anything. Then testing day came. It was okay. I think I butchered the argumentative essay. It wasn’t up to my own standards, but I hope that the examiner won’t mind too much on the contents. I hope they’ll only look for grammatical errors and all those technical stuff. I think I had the name of the founder of Apple company wrong. But I hope he/she doesn’t know better. It’s always important to cheat with confidence if you want to cheat or lie. Hah,. At the VERY LEAST, I got his first name right. Steve. Steve Bloom, I wrote. But it was STEVE JOBS!! dammit! Hahahahaha…

But anyways, I hope I got high marks and get called in for the interview, and the listening/speaking test majiggy….and Insyaallah…get an exemption. Arabic was easy….easy peasy….it only took me 5 minutes hahahhahahahahha~~~~~!!!

Another thing, now I’m in Mahallah Khadijah, or Khadijah College if you will. It was a former hospital building (largest college in the campus) and everyone dubs it Kingdom Hospital, for reasons I think you’d already figured out. Apparently it’s the most haunted building. And that got me really scared, so one Friday night my roommates and I recited Yaasin and some prayers for His protection; against things our naked eyes can’t see and from humans who wish to do harm. I have to say, I slept better that night, as did everyone else.

I was quite traumatized by the appalling English. The professors and the big people..all of them. The only two people whose English struck a good chord with me were Sister Nani Abdul Rahman and Associate Professor Muhammad Arif Zakaullah. Sister Nani in particular was very very inspirational in her speech…duh. She is my role model for now~~~graduating with a 3.9 CGPA and the Best Speaker at som tournament in Vienna and having the opportunity to dine at the the same as the people from the WTO….that is just..beyond amazing. She is my idol. I want to be just like her, if not better, Insyaallah.

I only have 2 hours ++ before I have to leave home for IIUMMC….hell….aaargh. I’ll be getting the EPT results back on the 11th. Wish me luck that I get called in for the 12th, and get an exemption.

Placebo: Meds

June 6th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

Placebo_meds_frontPLACEBOMEDS
"..This particular band is my ultimate favorite when it comes to music. Meds here is Placebo’s latest album, their sixth I believe. Their previous one is actually a compilation/remix album with two new songs which are to die for, and this one I believe doesn’t disappoint either. This one’s more mellow, as most bands tend to go after four-five albums. They grow up, their sounds mature, their lyrics more dark than it was. Placebo, in case I haven’t told you, is IMO, the kind of band whose songs you need to take a listen to more than once. Some songs strike you straight away, but most of the stuff on their albums need a good listen, and you’ll just find them indespensable and will find yourself listening to them and only them for weeks.

My personal favorite on this album (the ultimate indespensable favorite) is Blind. It’s so angsty it’s not even funny. In this album they talk a lot about relationships and their complexity, which I have never experienced therefore might not understand but since I am a fanfic writer (somewhat..)I do enjoy my dose of good ‘ol angst, and this album’s chuck full of it. This is just my take, if you would like to add something please do. I won’t eat you. Or will I…?…"

I won’t write a long one here, just my take on the songs, and if I am not lazy I shall elaborate more but now I am, so…I’ve graciously (haha snobby, much?!) put a link to Amazon (always a great place to "know" your stuff before you buy them) where you can listen to their snippets. It’s HARD to find their album in Malaysia, by the way. I will rate them by PANCAKES! haha YAY! 1-5 pancakes, as usual, and if it’s so worth it I shall call it Wilson’s Macadamia Nut Pancake! If it’s too bad, I’ll just put it as Murder On The Kitchen Floor. Clear? Aight! Proceed!!

Macadamia Nut; Like Silver $ Slices of Heaven

May 30th, 2006 by blackburnrovers

Allin2If you can’t already tell, I happen to be a huge fan of FOX’s TV Drama House, M.D., having ended its super-duper second season with a BANG. Don’t worry, I won’t give you any spoilers (I downloaded those babies from here , if you have a torrent client and are patient enough, they’re worth it!) The second season is so rad, I can’t even start telling you how important it is for Malaysian viewers to start watching it already! AXN will probably air it in a few month’s time (2nd season finale was last Tuesday for US viewers and those who have FOX *curse thee*) and maybe by that time I can go to Low Yatt or Sungei Wang Plaza to get my DVD Boxset *evil laugh*. Yeah, I’m all for cetak rompak, a view I will gladly elaborate on right after I’m done with my incoherent blabberings here.

Right now I’m pretty hungry, and I’m getting tension headaches from stuff, and reading just serves to exacerbate the condition..Sometimes I just don’t really give shite; I am addicted to reading as House is to his Vicodin. Haha. Everytime the 2nd Season comes to a near end the similarities between the series and Sir A.C. Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series seem to want to explode, almost.

Next will probably be Prison Break. Pb1x9bymaybetomorrow108sk_1
I was at Sungei Wang Plaza last week, wanting to buy the DVD Boxset but heck the whole DVD arena *if I could call it that* was closed down, perhaps due to DBKL inspection. It sucks ya know, because that either means it’ll open up next time or I could just check out Low Yatt; or I might have to spen 365days downloading the complete first season on Torrent. Sheesh. Why won’t people just SEED!! I’ve always been into prison stories; probably just as I’ve always been fascinated by the minds of sociopathic/serial killers. Dates back to Shawshank Redemption I used to watch on TV2, and now I find the "genre", if you will, has come back in style. Yay. The story is just neat, but of course it had Wentworth Miller to help out. Dammit…last time when he was in 2 of Mariah Carey’s videos I was makin fun of him like crazy, especially the EYEs..and those were the exact same eyes/stare I kinda fell in love with. Can’t beat House on the hotness scale yet, young man. Then Abruzzi just had to be played by Peter Stormare, the man whose face makes even Satan look kiddy. Oh wait…he did play Lucifer in Constantine. Dammit! The dude’s everywhere! But erh…his character is pretty okay, he is a Mob Boss after all, and I do have a thing for the Mafia~ What icks me now is T-Bag. Ngahahha only another perv would actually think of this prag-papa as hot! The whole grab my pocket thing itself is perversion displayed for the universe to see! Well then, I have to figure out something so I could watch the entire 1st season…8TV is killin me.

For now, though, I think I’ll settle with my Placebo propaganda, and reviews of some stuff I find interesting, and hopefully, some blabberings on some Universities I’ve come to nkow a little from taking advantage of their free prospectus deliveries *huahuahua*. See if this works out, eyh?

Till then, have a pancake. Maple syrup and all, this one’s on the House, ya’ll.

These aren’t pancakes. These are macadamia nut pancakes. Wilson made them and they’re amazing! Like little silver dollar slices of heaven…
